Wednesday night was a 12-game slate and the wire names are not hiding. Stephen Curry scored a season-high 44 points as Golden State beat Minnesota 119-114, Nikola Jokic recorded his 200th career triple-double as Denver beat New Orleans 104-91, and Victor Wembanyama took over overtime as San Antonio beat Utah 117-111.
Yaxel Lendeborg's 26 points with 9 rebounds on 11-of-20 shooting beside Curry's 44-point night is the add of the day at The Sports Nus fantasy basketball page. This is the second eye-catching line of his first week after his 31-point, 12-rebound night in Golden State's first win. A rookie producing in a featured role next to Curry is not a stream. That is an Add call, and the window is closing fast.
Curry is a Start call every night, obviously, but note the shape of this one: 44 points with 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 6 threes, 11-of-27 from the field and 16-of-16 from the line, with 19 points in the second quarter. The Warriors have won two straight after an 0-3 start, and Curry tying LeBron James for the most 40-point games at age 35 or older is a reminder that the age curve does not apply to him.
Jokic is a Start call every night too, and his line needs no translation: 21 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists for career triple-double No. 200, second only to Russell Westbrook's 209. Jamal Murray added 23 points beside him and all five Denver starters finished in double figures. Derik Queen is the Watch name out of that game, with 11 points and 12 rebounds off the bench for an 0-4 Pelicans team that also saw Jordan Poole leave early with an ankle injury.
Wembanyama is the other headliner and his line is the cleanest of the night: 36 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks and 0 turnovers on 14-of-25 shooting as San Antonio won overtime 12-6 in Utah. Devin Vassell added 21, with 17 after halftime. Start Wembanyama every night and enjoy the zero turnovers next to everything else.
Minnesota's first game without Anthony Edwards gave us two more calls. Jonathan Kuminga led the Wolves with 20 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists against his former team, and Terrence Shannon Jr. had 19 off the bench. Kuminga is an Add if he is available, because he led the team in scoring in the first Edwards-less game. Shannon is a Stream while Edwards is out up to two months, because bench wings get the first crack at those shots.
The Knicks' comeback in Chicago is a bench story. Jalen Brunson scored 38 points with 7 assists as New York erased a 19-point deficit to beat Chicago 133-127, and the bench trio that closed it all produced: Jordan Clarkson scored 18 points in 16.8 minutes, Tyler Kolek had 9 points with 9 assists and no turnovers, and Landry Shamet added 14, including the go-ahead three with 6:26 left. Kolek is a Watch, Clarkson and Shamet are Streams, and all three depend on whether coach Mike Brown keeps riding them after benching Mikal Bridges, who scored 3 points in 13 minutes.
Chicago still produced wire lines in the loss. Caleb Wilson had 20 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 1 block, and Jalen Smith posted 17 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocks with no turnovers. Wilson is an Add-or-Watch call with multi-category production and threes, and Smith is an Add on a double-double with dimes and blocks and clean ball security. Norman Powell scored a season-high 30 for the Bulls and stays a Start.
Anfernee Simons is an Add if he is available. He scored 20 points off the bench with 6 threes and sparked Philadelphia's fourth-quarter comeback in a 114-109 win at Indiana, where Tyrese Maxey scored 27, including 17 in the fourth. Andrew Nembhard is a must-roster stash while Tyrese Haliburton sits at least two weeks with a strained left hamstring: Nembhard had 18 points with 14 assists in this one.
The debuts matter too. Washington No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa started in his NBA debut after missing the first four games with a sprained left ankle and scored a team-high 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting in 26 minutes against Cleveland. That is an Add if he is available. Cleveland rookie Meleek Thomas scored 10 off the bench for his second straight double-digit night, and he is a Watch. Peyton Watson scored 22 for Cleveland, outscoring Donovan Mitchell's 19, and he is a Watch to see if the role holds.
Two more names to close the night. Keaton Wagler scored a career-high 21 points for the Clippers in their 103-87 loss to the Lakers, a Watch until his role and usage next game decide it. Brice Sensabaugh scored 16 for Utah, opening and closing overtime with threes, a Stream while Utah is missing Lauri Markkanen, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Jusuf Nurkic. Kingston Flemings scored 23 for Atlanta as a rookie, matching Nickeil Alexander-Walker as the Hawks' high scorer, and he is a Watch.
So the calls are Start on Curry, Jokic, Wembanyama and Brunson, Add on Lendeborg, Kuminga, Smith, Simons and Dybantsa, Watch on Queen, Kolek, Watson, Thomas, Wagler and Flemings, and Stream on Shannon, Clarkson, Shamet and Sensabaugh. Thursday brings a 3-game NBA slate plus the WNBA Finals Game 6 matinee, so set lineups early and watch the Pelicans' injury report before the winless Kings visit New Orleans.
