It all comes down to one game. The Chicago White Sox stole the first two in Cleveland, 3-0 and 4-3, and looked ready to bury the AL Central champs. Then the Guardians remembered who they are: 9-3 in Game 3 behind Jose Ramirez's two-triple night, then 9-5 in Game 4 to force a winner-take-all Game 5 on Saturday night at Progressive Field. The winner gets the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALCS.

The pitching matchup is the best of the series. Cleveland hands the ball to Gavin Williams (14-8, 3.76 ERA in the regular season), who struck out 11 in Game 2 and then closed out Game 4 with 18 high-leverage pitches on what was already his side-session day. Chicago counters with Sean Burke (11-7, 3.34 ERA), their most reliable starter: 9.1 postseason innings, a 3.86 ERA, a 0.64 WHIP and 14 strikeouts against one walk. Burke won Game 2 with 5.1 innings of one-hit ball. Both aces have seen these lineups already, and neither blinked.

Cleveland's offense woke up at exactly the right time. After managing three runs and seven hits across the first two games combined, the Guardians dropped nine runs on Chicago in each of the last two, with Ramirez, Jo Adell, Patrick Bailey and Brayan Rocchio all swinging hot bats. The White Sox counter with baseball's unlikeliest story: a team that lost 121 games in 2024 now one win from the ALCS, powered by Munetaka Murakami's 35 regular-season homers and a bullpen that carried them through Games 1 and 2.

Here is the wrinkle: the road team has won all four games in this series. The White Sox are 36-45 on the road this year, but they already won twice in this building. Cleveland is 41-40 at home. The Guardians burned eight pitchers in Game 4 while the White Sox leaned on Burke's efficiency all series. In a one-game season, the team with the fresher ace and the hotter bats usually wins. That is Cleveland on both counts.

Betting angle

Guardians ML (-137). The board's play. Williams on full rest would be enough, and he is coming off a dominant Game 2 and a tune-up close in Game 4. Cleveland has outscored Chicago 18-8 over the last two games, Ramirez is the best player in the series, and the price is short for a home team with the better starter. Lay it.

Guardians -1.5 (+158). The alt-line longshot on the board's parlay ticket. Two of Cleveland's three wins in this series came by six and four runs, and if Williams deals, this has 5-2 written all over it. Plus money for a team that just dropped nine runs twice in a row.

Under 7 (+100). The board's other play, broken down in full on its own page. Both starters have swing-and-miss stuff, Game 1 was 3-0, and winner-take-all games tighten up. If you like Cleveland, the under pairs naturally: Williams dealing means a low-scoring Guardians win.
