Colts at Steelers: Lay It With the Home Favorite
Sunday, 1:00 PM ET · Acrisure Stadium, Pittsburgh · CBS · Both teams 2-2
This is a scheduling mismatch disguised as a pick'em. The Colts fly home from London with no bye week and walk straight into Acrisure Stadium, where they have not won since 2008, to face a Steelers team coming off a mini-bye after its Thursday night loss in Cleveland. Pittsburgh has had ten days to prepare. Indianapolis has had jet lag. In a matchup of two 2-2 teams, that rest edge is the whole handicap.
The quarterback gap matters too. Aaron Rodgers has not been vintage, but 999 yards and 7 touchdowns through four games is functional NFL quarterbacking. Daniel Jones is at 754 yards with 3 touchdowns, 4 interceptions and a 73.9 rating, and the question hanging over Indianapolis is whether he can protect the football when Jonathan Taylor needs help through the air. Taylor (353 yards, 6 TDs) is the Colts' entire offense, and Pittsburgh's front knows it.
Injuries tilt this further toward the home side. Indianapolis ruled out linebacker Jaylon Carlies (ribs), defensive end Arden Key (hamstring) and receiver Ashton Dulin (hamstring), with cornerback Charvarius Ward (groin), receiver Darius Slayton (knee) and Keenan Allen all questionable. Pittsburgh is down Michael Pittman Jr. for multiple weeks with the foot injury, and the secondary is thin with Jamel Dean (ankle) out and Jalen Ramsey (wrist) questionable, but the Steelers' pass rush against a shaky Jones is the cleaner path to game control.
The trends back the number. Pittsburgh is 7-3 against the spread in the last ten meetings, and the line sitting under a field goal keeps the push out of play at -3. Indianapolis has covered three of four this season, so respect the dog, but the Colts are 2-12 straight up in their last fourteen against Pittsburgh for a reason. Light rain and 10 mph wind in the forecast only helps the team built to run it and rush the passer.
Betting angle
Steelers -3 (-102). The board's play. Extra prep off the mini-bye, a London-travel spot with no rest for Indy, a real quarterback gap, and a home field where the Colts have not won in eighteen years. Three points is a fair price for all of that. Lay it.
Under 43.5 (-112). On the board's radar. Two shaky quarterbacks, rain in the forecast, a run-first Colts offense against a Steelers front that wants exactly that script, and neither team has shown real explosiveness. If Pittsburgh wins, it is 20-16, not 31-28.
Steelers ML (-148). For the cautious. Same handicap without the hook on the number. Pittsburgh wins this game outright more often than the -3 price implies, so the moneyline is the parlay-friendly version of the play.
